The Unexpected Present

I’m all about the day after glow. And boy, do I have a story for you.

After all our presents were opened yesterday, I went in the kitchen to make our traditional breakfast, “Dutch Babies.” In order to make this dish, you have to have a lot of eggs. And butter. And flour. And butter. And milk. And heaping gobs of butter. But you also need a 9 x 13 baking pan. But when I went into the cupboard to find it, there was something in my way. Something big.

Something heavy. And wrapped. Another present? But we already opened everything. There wasn’t supposed to be another one. But yes! It’s for me. Another present. I pulled it out of the little nook where all my pots and pans were supposed to be.

And then ripped into it. What could it be? What could it be? Is this what I think it is? Wait a minute. It couldn’t be.

What does that say? Kitchen? KitchenAid? I’ve got to get a better look!

KitchenAid! That’s what it says! Are my eyes fooling me? Is this even possible? But right there, you can read it for yourself: KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Right here. In my house.

I had to step back and look at her. What just happened? Could I really be the proud owner?

I can’t believe it. There she is. In all her glory. My very own KitchenAid Stand Mixer. After all these years of waiting—all those entries in giveaway contests—I finally get to mix my cookie dough without the strength of my own arm. My kitchen has officially arrived. I can now claim my right of passage into the world of baking. I’ll hear the pleasant hum of her motor. Taste the fruit of her work. Eat cookies without biting into clumps of powder. And I am so excited.

Wait a minute. Wait a minute! Does this mean we’re moving?

Wow, thanks Caila. That makes me feel great. (13 pounds down from where I was this summer. Not much, but noticeable.)

  10. Carrie Consalvi says:

Yes, it could mean that. However, I still have a hefty bag of Christmas cookies to plow through first. I’m thinking Pizza Dough…

  11. Carrie Consalvi says:

Well, that’s an entirely different story. Bran bought me the Cherry Apple Red Edition, but we took it back to get a matted silver instead. I wanted something to go with my kitchen because I’m practical like that. But yes, the cherry apple red was in my hands for a whole day, and she was beautiful.
