I got a package in the mail yesterday. It was a birthday present from my sister.
Yes, my birthday was in January. Yes, it’s now March.
This is the way we do birthdays. We’ve always had trouble sending a gift on time. And to tell you the truth, two months later is pretty good. And I like it. Partly because it takes pressure of trying to send a gift by a certain shipping date. Partly because the gift is now expected late, so there’s no reason to feel guilty for forgetting to shop. But mostly because it’s super exciting to get something in the mail on some unexpected day.
Who wouldn’t like that?
The package was waiting for me when I got home. It was light. Felt like fabric. A shirt? A tablecloth? I tore into the envelope and saw creme colored fabric with sage green leaves. I love sage green leaves. My kitchen is covered in sage green.
My sister sewed me something. A homemade gift! I love homemade gifts. And would you look at that? Just look. She stitched in a bird. I love birds!
Oh! And there’s something else. What does that say? Ulla?
Ulla! It does say Ulla! There’s sage green leaves and a bird and now Ulla—wait a minute. Wait just a minute.
Is this what I think it is?
I reached in and found the card from my sister. “I hope Ulla enjoys her new dress.”
It is! It is what I think it is!
My sister…
…made my dear KitchenAid Stand Mixer…
…a personalized, sage green, leafy cover.
And I love it.
It’s a perfect gift. It hugs her ample hips just right. It keeps her clean and warm. What more could she ask for?
Thanks, Ann. You make for a nice sister.
Oh, and I promise. Your gift is on the way.

Matt said he hopes it’s not too clingy or revealing. We wouldn’t want to toaster to get any ideas. Ulla’s not that kind of girl.
I had to put my head in my hands and laugh! Where do you two come up with this stuff? And now Matt’s in on it. What will the neighbors think?
